Having got the house with the site under full-time residence or giving, and not having on proximity of reservoir for bathing, many owners think of creation of that in own territory. It is unlikely someone will begin to argue that the pond and stream which is picturesquely issued and entered in the general landscape considerably changes to the best view of all site and microclimate on it. Here and shadow from coastal plants, both cool from water and splash of small fish.
But units are solved on creation of reservoir the hands. And everything is not so difficult. In other article the pond used for drainage of the site was described already. Its design is simple thanks to initial conditions – high level of underground water, here and the lack of ground isolation and need in pumping practically does not happen.
The reservoir considered in this article will be slightly more difficult also more expensive. What to begin with? Of course, from the project. Attentively consider your site, attract children and friends. Not badly to rise by any eminence (for example, roof of the neighbour’s house) and to look at perspective not from within. Forms and the sizes of your pond (or the whole system of reservoirs) can be any. Let you be not frightened by creation of two differently-level, with irregular shape of twig and stream between them — on technology of cleaning and filtering this system is better and more convenient, for example, than banal round “mirror”. By the way, we will also consider it for example.
So, you have decided on design and the sizes of your reservoir. On the scheme offered to consideration are two ponds and stream between them. Further our task to arrange these ponds one above another. For this purpose it is necessary to use as natural land relief, and if necessary artificially to change it.
We choose the place for the lower pond and we dig ditch of form necessary to us and depth. Depth in principle can be any, and not uniform on all reservoir, but it should be taken into account that if you are going to start in the pond any living creatures (fishes, crocodiles.) depth is necessary for them for wintering and therefore at least part of reservoir has to have depth not less than two meters. At once we will mention that in this case it is also necessary “to give pro-spirit during the winter period” (to drill holes for water supply with oxygen).
Further we cover bottom and walls waterproofing material. It can be as in several layers the put greenhouse film (not durable material) and reinforced film and special textiles. Edges of isolation have to come at least to half a meter on the coast where will be recorded, and then are pressed perhaps down by boulders, powdered with the earth, decorated with different ways. Further works on this pond can be finished.
It is possible to cover bottom sand. It is possible sand, and on top small pebble. The bottom is possible, previously having concreted, to send sand and pebble and at the same time already to strengthen coast wild stone boulder, etc. Here already only your imagination and financial opportunities limits you.
Having finished with the lower reservoir, we pass to upper. For this purpose in the chosen place we remove the turf. The ditch under the second pond will be not deep half-meter, it is not necessary any more, depth to it will be given by the earth which is taken out when digging the first pond.
Having made timbering from bottom of the second ditch up to the necessary height (depth), we fill the earth around ditch, densely at the same time, ramming. From the edge it is possible to add stones for giving of durability and it is desirable clay. Wall thickness from the soil located above natural ground level has to be not less than three meters. We clean timbering after that and the procedure of waterproofing as well as in the first reservoir repeats. Whenever possible it is also worth strengthening pond walls casting, laying of wild stone or brick, however it is possible it and not to do.
So, we have two reservoirs with different level in them, further we need to make them reported. The stream is for this purpose planned. It can curl on all site, have cascades of falls and stony rifts (differences of heights of water, for their whole series, quite enough). The main thing we follow rules, waterproofing bottom.
The bottom should be strengthened pebble and small wild stone. Further we start water supply and filtering. Of course, rainfall will fill your reservoirs, but it is necessary to consider evaporations and possible droughts: the possibility of pumping is necessary, and it has to be in turn tied on the system of circulation and filtering of water.
With stream everything is clear to us, water itself flows with top down, but how will get upward? Of course — the pump. For these purposes it will be best of all to use the drainage pump. It turns on float-operated or electronic system at increase in height of water, or as in case necessary for us when falling. The pump (if it submersible, but not the pumping station) is placed in the lower pond, the sensor or the float-operated switch in upper. As soon as the height of water in upper pond falls below maximum value, normally it is level slightly above ground edge of your streamlet (that the current was constant, and the stream did not dry up), the pump turns on and drives water via the filter to upper pond.
The filter can be as factory production, and self-made, slightly below we will review example of creation of the filter the hands. As soon as level is raised to the set parameters, the pump is respectively switched-off, depending on the sizes of your reservoirs the pump has to be picked up for productivity so that managed to pump up the necessary volume of water and will be disconnected, saving resource and the electric power. For the purpose of economy water circulation can also will be disconnected for the night or other time chosen by you, but it is necessary to remember that water circulation is necessary not only for esthetics, it is necessary for cleaning and filtering.
We have dealt with water circulation between ponds, but what to do if water in the lower pond became insufficiently for the set necessary for circulation, level in upper? Pumping is necessary — your water supply system will cope with it. For this purpose it is only necessary to lay to the lower pond pipe from the house and on the end to put the closing valve with float (such as are applied in our drain tanks in toilet). Level has fallen below the value set by you at test pumping — the float has fallen, the valve is open, water has gone.
Now we will consider option of creation of the filter for our reservoirs. For this purpose we need rather big capacity or, depending on cubic capacity of ponds, a little. Calculations of productivity are made in the place in proportion to specific situation. We for example will take four vat plastic capacity.
At first it needs to be prepared. For this purpose we decide how water from capacity will be pumped in upper pond. There is it self-current, but options are possible here – it is possible to start up water on pipes, and it is possible to make one more stream. Capacity and pedestal (pedestal height meter – one and a half) can be decorated under the Alpine hill, barrow and td.
So, preparation of capacity. If pipes are applied, we do from below several openings with fitting for connection of pipes (four openings under pipes with a section about 50 mm quite enough) If pipes are not provided, the opening is enough of one on the center. From bar 100х100 we knock together pedestal for capacity and we establish on it is mute capacity. On capacity bottom the grid is made of bar of coniferous breeds of trees 50х50. The grid becomes, thus, that lying at the bottom, it did not interfere with free current of water through opening in day outside. We do the section of squares of grid also 50х50. On this grid we spread layer of wild stone the size which is not allowing its failure between bars. Behind that there is layer of smaller stone, it coarse pebbles, layer of small pebble or granite crumb, layer of coarse sand and, at last, layer of fine sand, in total layers of sand have to be about 400 mm. Other volume at us will be filled by water. As it was already told productivity (the volume of tank or their quantity is selected individually). Use of special factory filters can simplify considerably system in mounting, but at the considerable volumes of reservoir and impurity — it will turn out expensively. The self-made filter is rather durable and is not whimsical in service, during the summer service, as a rule, comes down to sand replacement not more often than two times during the season.
Thus, it is quite real on the seasonal dacha to create the system of ponds with stream, cascades, falls.
