Laying of parquet board the hands

The parquet board has considerable differences from normal parquet – it is perfect other material representing peculiar “pie” from several layers. The cost of parquet is much higher, at the same time these floor coverings differ in quality a little. One more plus of parquet board – it, unlike normal parquet, can quite be laid independently.

Parquet board

This construction material has been invented and patented in Sweden more than 70 years ago. The covering is considered reliable, simple and cheap., consists of three layers which are stuck together among themselves. Grain direction of the center is perpendicular to fibers of two other layers.

Advantages of parquet board:

  • durability and shock resistance;
  • moisture resistance;
  • it is not subject to temperature influences;
  • does not change geometry during operation;
  • does not demand additional finishing;
  • has no chips;
  • it is ready to laying.

The top layer is made of expensively wearproof wood with thickness of 0.5-6 mm, most often thickness of top layer – 4 mm. Process of preparation of wood takes place in several stages industrially:

  • planing and grinding,
  • heat treatment,
  • bleaching,
  • removal of facet,
  • processing by the oil-wax structures or it is delicious, toning.

Important that, the protecting cover has been how well put. Some wearproof varnishes for hardening need ultra-violet processing. This mode cannot be provided after mounting of designs. The protective structure can consist of oils on the basis of beeswax, uf-oil, etc.

The center is made from cheaper coniferous breeds. Its thickness — 8-9 mm. Its main destination – connection among themselves separate elements by means of the castle or tongue-and-groove device.

The base layer 1.5 mm thick serves for giving to board of durability, resistance to temperature differences and. Also it is made of inexpensive, is more often than coniferous breeds.

Kinds of parquet board

The parquet board is issued in several sizes:

  • thickness – from 14 to 22 mm;
  • length – from 0.6 to 3 m;
  • width – from 14 to 20 cm.

Can be the single-band, double-band or three-lane depending on that how many longitudinal ranks contain in top layer. Elements of ranks consist of dies. The single-band top layer represents one integral die. Boards do not differ in big length.

The double-band board consists of two rows of dies. Can have different length.

The three-lane parquet board has three rows of dies with different length and shift on the relation to each other.

Ways of laying

Set of tools, necessary for laying of parquet board is practically in any house, and its application on demands certain knowledge therefore mounting quite can be conducted independently even by the person without wide experience of construction jobs.

Panels to the necessary size by the electrofret saw or normal hacksaw with small teeth are cut.

The parquet board by means of the normal hammer up to kilogram is lined. But it is impossible to line directly boards, it is also undesirable to use for this purpose wooden bars. Instead of them apply the special piece of plastic which is usually entering standard set for laying of laminate or parquet board. At it smaller, than at wooden, the rigidity, and use of such bar does not bring to chips of edges of the panel.

The plastic restrictive wedges necessary can enter set to fix distance between walls and parquet board. Such wedges can be chip off from tree and independently.
One more necessary subject which has to enter set – metal bracket which fixes the last panel. It can be replaced with the clamp.

Besides the traditional tool for construction is required: squares, tape measure, level.

The parquet board can be laid by one of several ways:

  • floating way – parts connect among themselves by means of glueless lock connections;
  • glue way – panels fasten to the floor basis by means of glue;
  • laying of panels on logs;
  • fixing of panels on draft wooden floors nails.

In the most popular way there was floating method recently. It perfectly will be suitable for not too big rooms which area does not exceed sixty square meters. The way differs in simplicity and speed of mounting, is available to independent laying. When choosing parquet boards with glueless locks it is necessary to pay special attention to quality of locks. Also great value high-quality preparation has the reasons.

Laying of parquet board on glue demands considerably big labor costs. Besides the similar way excludes further any repair work on replacement of damaged panels.

Fixing by nails to draft floor is used generally when mounting the massive parquet board gradually disappearing from sale.

Laying of board on logs is also not too convenient. Thickness of parquet is not too big in order that it could maintain independently loads without support of the basis. Therefore the interval between logs should not exceed 30-40 centimeters, and it is economically unprofitable.

That is all others, except floating, ways have these or those shortcomings therefore in 90% of cases of the panel are mounted by means of glueless locks. This method is ideal also for independent laying.

Preparation of the basis

The floating way has received the name because the parquet board has no rigid communication with the basis. Such method demands from the basis of ideally plain, dry and strong surface. Two types of the floors which are completely corresponding to criteria of producers of floor coverings are allocated: adjustable floors from wood and concrete tie.

Each of options has the advantages. So at concrete tie any height can, it can play role in rooms with low ceilings. Use of adjustable floors will reduce floor-to-ceiling height at least by several centimeters, but if necessary to level floor or to raise its such basis is irreplaceable. Under adjustable wooden floors different communications can be laid, besides this way saves time necessary for preparation of the basis.

The basis under parquet board has to meet several requirements, the surface has to be:

  • equal, height differences in any direction cannot be more than 1-2 millimeters on running meter;
  • strictly horizontal – it is checked by construction level;
  • with low humidity;
  • sound-absorbing;
  • clean, processed by the vacuum cleaner after primer.

If there is no opportunity to level the existing counterfloor basis, the wet or dry tie becomes.

For the device of wet tie cement or concrete is used. The concrete tie also should have no height differences, otherwise the laid parquet will publish constant scratches. For this purpose beacons are carefully exposed, the hydrolevel and big construction level is used. If the general thickness of tie small, the best option becomes use of quality mixes. Otherwise it is necessary to use normal cement slurries.

Continuation of works with the basis from wet tie demands time necessary for its drying and set of durability. Drying of sand-cement slurries occurs within three weeks therefore such arrangement of the basis is suitable only for those who have the necessary time.

The term of hardening of tie can be reduced to several days if to apply modern additives to mixes. The same additives can have water-repellent properties, do tie of more wearproof and on dust, capable to allocation.

The dry tie means use of special mixes and includes preparation of waterproofing course therefore on time of its preparation concedes to tie wet a little.

After draft floor is ready to carrying out further works, it has to be carefully processed by the vacuum cleaner. Over tie the vapor barrier layer in the form of film from polyethylene 0.25 – 0.5 millimeters thick keeps within. The film keeps within with overlap 10-20 centimeters, its strips fasten to each other adhesive tape.

Over tie also the sound-absorbing substrate from frothed polyethylene or other similar material is established.

Moisture resistant plywood plates in which threaded legs are twisted are the cornerstone of adjustable floors. By means of such legs the ideal horizontal necessary for mounting of parquet board easily is established. Similar designs gather quite simply, wet works are not performed, floor slabs are not made heavier, floors are at once ready to the subsequent use. Operation of this design is comparable to the term of operation of the most parquet board and about fifty years last. Laying of boards on plywood is made by any of the listed above ways without any further processing, it becomes one more plus of this basis.

Installation of parquet board can be made also on already existing floor basis if it answers all with the above-stated requirements. If linoleum forms basis, the soundproofing substrate is not used.
It is possible to tell that laying of parquet board is independently not too difficult. And here preparation of the invisible, lower part of covering, its basis, much more laborious and difficult work.

Laying of parquet board

Before being engaged in direct laying, the parquet board has to be sustained in not less than two days.

Under the panel the natural or synthetic substrate intended for protection of board against excessive moisture keeps within. Seams of sheet subspoon material are carefully pressurized by means of special adhesive tape.

Laying of parquet board can happen both parallel to walls, and in the diagonal direction. The chosen technique has no impact on functional performance, but increases amount of consumable material by 2-7%. Besides diagonal mounting demands considerably bigger accuracy in measurements and cutting of panels. Usually such way is applied in rooms in which the impression of unsuccessfully design or arrangement of furniture has to be maleficiated.

Mounting of the two first rows of parquet board becomes the initial stage. They are located so that at opportunity the direction of panels was parallel to beams of the street light falling from window. For this purpose along wall spreader wedges are established previously, and four boards give all the best in chessboard order. The distance between wall and board cannot be less than 10 millimeters. At temperature expansions such compensation gap protects material from mechanical damages.
Panels of board nestle on spreader wedges and the second row is mounted. The panel, next to wall, from the second row is sawn off in length not less than 80 centimeters. The best option when transverse welds of the next ranks are located opposite to the center of panels of the next ranks. Anyway it is necessary to watch that running start of transverse welds of parallel ranks was not less than 50 centimeters, otherwise durability of the received connections will wish bigger. the chess arrangement of the end faces located in the next ranks is desirable. Except durability of the most floor covering, it influences also uniform load dispatch, falling on base layer.

Boards of the second row are inserted into grooves of panels of the first row at an angle in 20-25 degrees. They are latched, but not fixed. After installation of the first board of the second row, the second board which is also latched is put, and then lined in the face lock of already laid board in we howl to row. Only after that the boards established in the second row are densely fixed in locks to maximum and by means of plastic bar are lined to the first row so that between them there were no visible seams. According to this technique there is set of floor completely on all room.

Certain complexity exists when mounting of the completing number of parquet board. Before its installation the distance between penultimate row and wall is carefully measured. Width of boards of the last row is this distance minus 1 centimeter which is also necessary for receiving compensation gap. Boards are sawn according to the received measurements. On grooves of panels of penultimate row the key edge is cut, grooves are filled with glue and the board of the last row is inserted into them. Installation happens closely by means of mounting claw, or the clamp.

After the glue connecting the last ranks of panels dries, the works are completed by installation of plinth. From compensation seam spreader wedges are removed, and the plinth fastens only to wall. It should not be located closely to parquet board. Width of plinth is calculated so that completely to close compensation gap.

When laying board in the diagonal way its mounting happens similarly, only the corner of panels on the relation si rooms makes 45 degrees. The direction of laying is defined from interroom door. You should not apply this method in rectangular narrow rooms and rooms with small area — the floor covering can look too brightly.

Finishing of parquet board

Earlier the parquet works were traditionally completed by finishing of covering which consisted in scraping. Exactly thanks to such procedure the parquet turned into ideally plain surface. After that floor became covered by several varnish coats and was dried up. The modern parquet board of similar procedures does not demand as it becomes covered with varnish still industrially and in itself has excellent geometry.

However during operation when through time the surface loses initial luster. Helps to return former exterior to floor scraping on depth to millimeter and covering new varnish coat. After such processing the term of operation of parquet board lasts for 15-20 years.

The three-layer parquet board can be put in order by means of grinding by the special machine of tape type. However powerful machine drums cause the strong vibration which is negatively affecting structure of board. Therefore grinding is made at first by abrasive paper with granularity 40, and comes to the end with abrasive No. 150. The result of works as palm is checked: if on surface of floor there are no roughnesses, means finishing it is possible to consider finished.

Councils and recommendations

  • You should not choose parquet board for rooms with high passability.
  • Hasty mounting, the uneven basis lead to gaps and emergence of scratches.
  • It is better to begin works from interroom door to window.
  • In non-standard design of the room about set of niches and corners better diagonal laying looks.
  • The cuts necessary for bypass of water pipes become on 22 millimeters over a pipe diameter.
  • For simplification of fixing of locks and increase in their life cycle in the course of assembly grooves and thorns become covered by special paraffin impregnations.
  • You should not apply sealants to fixing.
  • Varnish for parquet board should be applied in three layers, each time reducing force of pressing brush.
  • Avoid wet cleaning at care of board, rather traditional vacuum cleaner or strongly squeezed out rag.
  • When choosing plinth it is necessary to give preference to wooden products.

The work done according to all recommendations and councils will allow to receive excellent result.
